STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) 课程s are for students planning 主要 in programs that require calculus.

To meet your GE math requirement, you only need one math 课程. However, STEM majors are often required to take more math 课程s. Your placement will determine which 课程 you start with.

You may not need to take all the 课程s listed below. Your educational goals and major will require specific 课程s. Please check your Educational Plan or see a counselor to make sure you are taking the 课程s that best meet your needs.

The STEM Math Sequence

The Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math sequence of math classes is as follows: Math 003 “College 代数 for STEM” is 5 units and is transferrable.  学生可以 选择取0.5 unit, non-transferrable support 课程 Math 103 “支持 for College 代数.”  After successfully passing Math 003, students would move onto Math 008 “Precalculus Trigonometry”, a 4-unit college-level class that is not UC 转移rable.

Alternatively, students could start at Math 009 “Precalculus”, a transferrable, 6-unit 课程.

After successfully passing Math 008 or Math 009, students could then move onto Math 005A “Single Variable Calculus 1”, a 5-unit transferrable 课程.  下一道菜 in the sequence is Math 005B “Single Variable Calculus 2”, a 5-unit transferrable 课程.  学生可以 also select to take Math 022 “Discrete Mathematics”, a 4-unit transferrable 课程 after completing Math 005A.

After successfully passing Math 005B, students can take one of three options.

  • Option 1: Math 005C “Multivariable Calculus”, a 5-unit transferrable 课程 that completes the Calculus sequence of 课程s.
  • Option 2: Math 010 “Linear 代数 and Applications”, a 4-unit transferrable 课程.
  • Option 3: Math 055 “Differential Equations”, a 4-unit transferrable 课程.
